Central Texas Title, formerly known as Hood County Abstract Company, traces its beginnings to the year 1872, within five years of the founding of the town of Granbury. In the early 1870's, J. H. Hiner, a notable citizen of the new town, consolidated the W.J. Moore Land and Abstract Company with the W. R. Dobbins and Company Abstract Office to form the J. H. Hiner Company.

Around the turn of the century, Estes and Estes Abstractors purchased Mr. Hiner's company and named the new company B. M. Estes and Company.

In 1919, A. T. Keith acquired the company and formed a partnership with local banker Henry Zweifel and Roy Hightower and named the business Hood County Abstract Company. Roy Hightower eventually bought out his partners and operated the Abstract Company through the depression, World War II and into the 1950's. Insulated from the bustling metroplex areas to the northeast, Hood County remained a peaceful rural community and grew slowly.

In 1957, Roy Hightower's widow sold Hood County Abstract Company to Joseph and Margaret Carmichael. Mr. Carmichael was concluding a term as County Judge, when the couple set up offices in the eastern half of the old opera house building.

In April 1975, Mrs. Carmichael sold the business to R. G. "Dick" Allen and his wife, Sunny Allen. The Allen's moved the business to the Haynes-Burns-Ewell building, where the main offices of Central Texas Title are now located at 105 East Pearl Street, across from the historic Hood County Courthouse. The Allen's renamed the company, Hood County Title Company. In 1977, the company was incorporated, and in the spring of 1978, the Allen's renamed the company to Central Texas Title.

On March 1, 1979, partners, Gary Watson and David L. Brown, purchased Central Texas Title. During their 30 years of leadership, Central Texas Title has grown and expanded. To better serve customers, Central Texas Title Acton Branch office was opened in December 1984. Central Texas Title Glen Rose Branch office was opened in April 1997 and Central Texas Title Highway 377 Branch office was opened in April 1998.

In April 2007, Central Texas Title became an affiliate of Stewart Title Company. This union affords Central Texas Title vast resources, state of the art technology and a variety of real estate related services. Although now a Stewart Title Company affiliate, the character and integrity of Central Texas Title remains the same.
